Jamf bolsters security capabilities

By

Apple enterprise management specialist Jamf has announced a series of new security capabilities.

Jamf Unlock allows a user to passwordlessly authenticate and access their Mac, using Face ID on the their iPhone.

Jamf Protect has been progressively enhanced with extensive anti-virus capabilities, expanded threat prevention capabilities, selective device log collection, integrations into Microsoft Azure Sentinel and AWS S3, and role-based access control.

Jamf's threat detection team has in the last two months discovered and analysed two major vulnerabilities in macOS. Although they have now been patched by Apple, the vulnerabilities were exploited by Shlayer and XCSSET to bypass macOS's security and privacy features.

Compliance Reporter was delivered this month by Jamf to provide auditing and compliance checks for macOS. It monitors endpoint security settings against common OS hardening benchmarks, and maintains visibility of critical network, process, system, and user activity .

Jamf recently announced its intent to acquire zero-trust provider Wandera.

This acquisition, according to Jamf, will uniquely position the company to help IT and security teams protect the devices, data and applications used by a mobile workforce via Jamf's Apple enterprise management platform.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.

"The security needs of enterprise organisations are changing, as their employees demand to work from the devices and locations they want," said Jamf director of security strategy Josh Stein.

"Jamf is committed to building the most secure and scalable Apple enterprise management platform available and to letting IT and security teams stay compliant with company policies while empowering their end users to be their most productive and protected from whichever device and workspace they choose."
